  • adaptive subdivision image sampler

    Please bring back the adaptive subdivision image sampler, at least in the expert mode!
    Yes, it is true for me that I use it rarely fore final renderings, but I use it a lot for previews, especially for animation.
    I just can't get the bucket mode as fast as the adaptive and with the lowest values the quality is so bad that I could show that to my customers!

    Example:
    Adaptive Subdivision (-1/2) 17 sec

    Bucket (fixed 1 / min Samp. 2) 17 sec, but not usable
    Bucket (min 1 max subd 2 / min Samp. 2) 43 sec, better, but still not as good as Adaptive Subdivision

    Is Progressive Mode not an option for preview? I thought that was quite fast, no?

      Try using bucket at something like 1/8 but lower your colour threshold instead to something like 0.1 rather than chancing your min / max.

        +1 on bringing back the adaptive subdiv. Great for test renders, previews and such! Also much faster with heavy DOF or Mblur with negative sampling.
        It says it was removed from the UI. So I should be able to change to it via maxscript?

        Cheers

          Ok I've found .imagesmapler_type = 2 looks like adaptive subdiv.

          For anybody interested:

            Yes, you can use:
            renderers.current.imageSampler_type=2

            But still.
