  • LensEffect as Standalone

Hi, in my scenes i use a lot the lens effect tool of the frame buffer and find it a great tool.
A lot of time i have the need to have more than one setting for the glare and it will be great to have the ability to load the render in the frame buffer and create it after closing max .
Also for example if i render distributed or send the file to an external renderfarm i cannot do more than one settings.

Or maybe is alredy possible but i really do not understand how to composite the lens effect elements in post.

    Thanks.

Vray's glare/bloom are not meant to be composited in post but you can get close to the same effect by differencing the beauty pass from the glare pass, and then setting that as an add layer onto the beauty pass.

There are other standalone glare app and photoshop plugins that you can also use for glare. The advantage of doing it with Vray is that you can generate it at render time and never have to worry about it again. Doing it non render time in post can become time consuming if you are working against a deadline.

      Thanks.
it will be smart and easier to have the ability of making it after the rendering is done. Or maybe render more thant one glare settings.
Just think about distributed rendering or external farm...I cannot tweak the glare after render if i need. Or if the client ask me a different glare after 2 days i cannot take the VFB always open. And in some scenes make a crop of the objects affected by the glare is like rerender all the scene and in most case it will be rerender a lot of glass, bulb glass, lamp glass very time consuming.
Maybe i am the only one that will have benefit...but in my case i will use it almost in every render.

      Thanks, for answerme

Well, we do have a standalone version of the VFB (where you can load images, adjust color corrections and resave), but I'm not sure how convenient that will be? I mean you can always open Max or Maya and use the VFB there.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

I always render an unclamped pass with color mapping enabled. This will look identical to your beauty pass without glare. If needed you can then build the glare manually on top of that pass.

Or.. render without glare and use one of these apps to generate glare from a 32bit image.

Hi, and thanks for answer me, maybe i used the wrong word, is't ok if is not a stand alone version but is the normal VFB.
I didn't know that i can load images and create glare in the frame buffer after closing the current render.

So if i understand clearly open 3dsmax, load one of my .exr render file and that i have the possibility to apply glare?
But what about the mask elements that i need for the glare? i need to calculate it at render time...

I know that there are a lot of apps for creating glare...but vray do the same and it will be grate to have the possibility to use the vray glare effects instead of using an other app. The other app can do also tone mapping, curves adjustmet other things...the cool thing is to have this freedom inside vray. I know that also the other VFB option can be achived in external software like photoshop but they are in the VFB.

For me it will be very usefull to have the opportunity of create an tweak the glare\bloom setting after closing the current VFB. What about if it crash while a'm playng with glare option? i must redo the render...or of course use an other software. I can use other software for all things.

" use one of these apps to generate glare from a 32bit image " It's a strange answer, i can use other software for do pretty much everything including the render calculation....but i like vray and i like to use it for all the stuff that complete my images.

            Thanks
