  • Suggestion: SmartBuckets

    Hi,
I don't know if this is easy or difficult for you to do and if this is a totally insane idea, so I also want input from other users if they'd use such a feature.
Currently we have (apart from the different modes like hilbert, right to left etc.) the mouse tracking for buckets which is awesome.

Now I'm doing a rendering of which I know that a certain part or the image will take very long to render and I am not quite sure if I can complete it within the deadline and I thought somehow it would be cool to have kind of a "render priority" list for the buckets - either determined automatically or via user input. There I can say that for example object X has a low priority and the buckets would first render the other parts of the scene and THEN object x.

Like I said I don't know if this is an addition that makes sense or if I'm just crazy. What do you think?

I always hoped the Light Cache could be used to estimate where the rendering time would be.

Also I'd still like to be able to do Smart-Tile-Rendering through deadline using a test render and a render element which is just render time per pixel so a clever subdivison algorithms could make intelligent tiles. ie Make lots of tiles around headlights.

I think we might end up using the light cache to guide the bucket split; after all it worked very well for the Adaptive Lights
