So I've just installed Vray 3.6 and was excited to find out if this behavior was changed but sadly not. That's the only thing that is really bothering me with IPR - it always renders regions from scratch despite that I have made absolutely no changes to the scene - view, camera, materials, geometry etc. Especially irritating when I run IPR on the whole image and then I want to make a region only to have the image render from scratch again because the previous region was covering almost the whole image.
IPR is by far one of the biggest and best additions to Vray in the past several years so I'm not sure why this problem is not top priority (along with stability fixes of course) from the moment IPR was officially introduced. I would expect that novel features that are introduced for the very first time won't be 100% complete at launch but 5 months later this issue is still not improved which means 5 months since launch IPR is still not 100% functional, at least for me. I'm not sure about other people but to me personally it kind of defeats the purpose of IPR if every time I draw a region the image starts rendering from scratch when no changes were made. It seems like a waste of CPU power and not everyone has the latest 10 core CPU or a dual Xeon.
I know that talking about the competition is not very nice but in Corona Interactive this issue doesn't exist. To give you an example, please check this Corona demonstration video from 33:05 onward. Notice how the part of the image where the region was drawn didn't start rendering from scratch but continued to refine further:
Hopefully this doesn't offend anyone, my intention is to just bring awareness in hope that this can be looked at and improved. I do understand that Corona doesn't develop their engine for numerous different platforms like you guys do so they may have more resources to pour into their engine so maybe I'm asking for too much, I don't know.
