  • VrayHDRI: Clamp values

    Hey,
I have a request here that would finally make the ancient color correct plugin obsolete. The only reason I still use it is that it has a clamp function.
This is quite usefull sometimes when you are lighting scenes with HDRIs, for example on night shots. Often the bright light sources create lots of fireflies in the reflection pass, which the Max Ray intensity can't get rid of. So I use the color correct node and clamp the HDRI values at 10 or 20, and the problem is gone. Is it possible to integrate such a feature into the regular VrayHDRI?

    Regards

    Oliver

I haven't tried it but does the "Clamp" checkbox in the Output Tab of your image loader node not work?

Yes, but that clamps at 1.0
In the old color correct, I can specify the value at which it clamps.

Oh, I see. I only ever use clamping if I intend to clamp to 1.0. But I can see your use case.

not even night but also day. i solved and cleaned this by separating speculars that carry bokeh effect into copied HDRI and there i went to 1.3 on inverse gamma which helped with highlights. It is not ideal cause i also lost a bit intensity for bokeh, but it definitely helped with almost all the fireflies.
