  • Elements by category

Hi, it should be very useful when adding elements to have em as lists or with dividers.
For example. "Beauty" and there gi, light etc.
"Utilities" and there zdepth, velocity etc.
    "Raw" self explanatory
That way i dont have to go down everytime alphabetically and add my passes for beauty (many times i forgot self illum for example or accidentally include RawReflection instead of Reflection).
I know is not something important hehe, but it would be really helpful for ppl that work with passes thanks

Agreed, searching for elements is annoying. 1+ for categories if possible.

Some preset elements sets would be cool too.
I sometimes add the denoiser just for having reflection GI spec and stuff for diagnosis.
Presets for the three compositing flavors vlado mentioned here would be cool:

Since you managed to kick the scanline elements out, could you remove the vray from the name of the elements?
We could than jump to an element by hitting its first letter key.
And could you do that for Render to texture too?
German guy, sorry for my English.

We tried to change the names of the elements at some point; it caused a huge outcry from people that had scripts and stuff already written. Maybe we can figure out ways to do it without breaking compatibility...

      Best regards,

Mmm yea reasonable complaints. Maybe not change names and only separate em different as categories, so with 1 click u get like all the beauty passes/all utilities etc. It wouldnt be an actual change, it could act as a preset.
Since u mentioned it Vlado, is there any script that i can run and add specific elements? This is all i need actually. Rest are welcome ofc but this is my basic need here. Thanks

For sure you can add specific elements from a script, I've written some of these when I wanted to set up render elements for denoising before the denoiser was integrated... Which ones do you want to add?

          Best regards,
          Vlado

One can save preferred configurations of render elements in .max files and the use the Merge.. button in the Render Elements Tab to load them.

Wouldnt this affect all your render settings?

No, you just merge some render elements.

You may be thinking of 3ds max render presets, but even there you can just save/load the Render Elements category - nothing else is affected. BTW, I think the UI of that 3ds max feature is badly designed. Because the render preset names stays in the combo box after loading - so one thinks of it as something permanent, which it isn't.
