  • Mathematics and UVW manipulator nodes and...

    Hi,

I feel that now that Corona is part of the family, we could have Vray to become fully pro.
By pro I mean that I would love to see nodes for controlling math operations in 3dsMax. Currently I do a lot with the output node and the VrayComp BUT a replacement with full maxscript possibilities would be best. I added a note on the wish list at autodesk but I want it to work in RT and don't think waiting for AD is any good...
Right now the output node allows you to multiply, add (and some kind of divide\substract...) but you can't create points on the curves in maxscript which is really crazy: you create the points in the UI and then can access their subanim.... when you want to do hundreds of points I let you figure the problem.
it would be nice to add some power operation as well.

Manipulating the UVW like the way Bercon Maps allows you to would be extremely helpful as well, right now it doesn't work in RT and is probably the plugin I miss the most.

A falloff texture that could take a map as an input value for fresnel would be nice too. I did one in OSL but I heard it is not the preferred langage for Vray and it will never work in RT...

A normalMap that could access a level in subdivision would be a must for placing normal Maps generated in Mudbox at a specific level of subdivision. When using the tangent space of subdivision 0 or 1 on an arbitrary level depending on the edge size doesn't produce expected results...

I could probably go on for quite a while... I read Vlado complaining that the procedurals in 3dsMax haven't changed for 20 years, well why wait for AD?

We are working on something in that regard.

We need to finish some internal changes to the V-Ray SDK and make sure that everything runs properly again before starting the nightlies. It will take a few more weeks.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Ouch, that is a long time to wait... but I have a feeling it is going to be worth it!

Sounds awesome - I gave up on Bercon maps.
