Is it a good idea to use viewport render exposure same than Scene active camera settings ?

  • Is it a good idea to use viewport render exposure same than Scene active camera settings ?

    When using Physical Camera for rendering and when using viewport render without camera mode shows everything overexposed.
    I wonder if there will be setting in the future for that. That way you can see everything in correct lighting without having to be in camera mode, just like looking through the scene active camera.

    It's something we (3dsmax users) faced in the past and there, the "solution" was to add a Vray Exposure control in the Exposure Control inside the Environment and Effects window.
    In my opinion, this is a partial solution as, if you have physcameras with different settings, which camera settings should be used for a "correct" viewport rendering?
    Probably it's better to have something like this but I don't think it's a global solution.
    Otherwise an Auto Exposure + Auto White Balance could be more useful but again you're watching something that will be different from the cameras you have in the scene.

      Correct settings would be taken from Scene active camera. Its there in Scene tab. Scene active camera is set everytime when you use Camera mode. So if you change the camera and going to Camera mode, Scene active camera is that object. But yes, In Blender, Scene active camera could be any object (not only Camera-object) , so its not that easy

      In that case when NOT Camera object is Scene active camera, additional exposure settings would take a place..

      So in practically, viewport render without camera mode will use the last camera settings you used.

        Thanks for the suggestions.

        We wanted to handle this somehow, but we didn't really figure a good way to do this. I'll check with the devs to see if we can add some additional V-Ray specific options to camera settings inside the scene tab. I've also been thinking that we can try to add some additional camera options in the V-Ray button that we've recently added to the viewport (the one in the upper-right corner). That way, you would be able to quickly apply exposure settings for the viewport camera that is currently being used or rendered with.

        Let me know what you think about this.

          If I've correctly understood, this could be something similar to the Exposure Control of 3dsmax. In my opinion it could be fine as, if you have different cameras exposure settings, it's quite impossible to understand which one it's needed for the perspecitve viewport... I don't know if it will be good to have the opportunity to choose which camera use as reference for exposure setting... probably some testing on this to understand if it's too complicated could be done...
