One issue is the same of many others and it's due to the fact that you need to switch back to shading viewport and back again to rendered viewport to see the change.
For this node, the issue raises when you set an object as reference for the "distance" and you're in rendered viewport. If you remove the object, the rendered viewport is not updated...it seems that the object still used.
The second one is the "Collection" as reference for the distance.
In this case it seems that it doesn't use the objects inside the collection added to the "collection" option.
Another issue with this "Collection" option is that the picker picks the object you click on and not the collection linked with it. Actually I think that, as an object could have more than one collection, it could be really good if you can show a floating menu where you can choose a collection within the ones linked with the picked object.
