Hello sean_krouse10
Thanks for reaching out!
The V-Ray Normal Bump node is used to convert a bump map into an explicit normal map, which is why plugging it into the Coat Bump slot has no effect by default. If you want to use your bump map with the V-Ray Normal Bump node, you need to change the Coat Bump Type to Normal. See the example below.
If you’re trying to achieve a specific effect and my advice doesn’t fully help, please let me know so I can assist you further.

Thanks for the reply, after following the instructions in the example my coat bump still has no effect. On the other hand i can plug a B&W Noise into the coat bump with no normal bump and not changing the bump type to explicit normal of just a Vray Mtl and it will still display, could be something wrong with my version as im still running on the day 1 release.
I've resolved this by building a manual flakes shader with two Vray mtl's and a flakes 2 mtl in a blend
Ive included photos below of my scenario

That’s odd. Could you possibly provide the scene from the example so we can check it out?
Also, please make sure that you are using the latest version of V-Ray for Blender, which you can find here: V-Ray for Blender
