Apparently, some lights in Blender don't obey the visibility settings when you hide objects from the viewport.
I haven't tested all light types, but as you can see in the screenshot, only the 'Rectangular Light' and 'Sun Light' follow this rule, the rest stay visible on my screen, both in normal view and in IPR render mode.
