  • V-Ray for Maya 2.0 beta

Apparently the V-Ray for Maya 2.0 beta is out. I asked Chaosgroup and they told me that Standalone is included and will have the 2.0 features, like GPU rendering, post-production effects. I think that really rocks.

I haven't had any time to play with V-Ray in months, but i will have time to do some testing next month. Maybe some of us can sign up for the beta and check out the possibilities with Andrey?

Does the script even work with the new beta 2.0 gpu ?

    Kind regards

at this point i wouldn't think any of the new features are supported, but we should ask Andrey whether he already has any info on it

soulofsound, currently only Dispersion is supported. Stereo and other stuff is still in stage of porting from max's V-Ray.
Btw, script now supports Spherical Harmonics.

Re: V-Ray for Maya 2.0 beta

            Hi Andrey,

I am thinking about upgrading to 2.0, is there some kind of list which features are supported and which are planned? Is it worth it right now? If Vray-RT works that alone would be worth the upgrade.

            Thanks!

Re: V-Ray for Maya 2.0 beta

is there some kind of list which features are supported
              - Dispersion
              - CarPaint
              - Spherifical harmonics

              and which are planned?
              - RT realtime scene update
              - add new plugins as they are ported to Standalone (not everything ported yet)

Is it worth it right now?
I can't suggest to upgrade or not.

If Vray-RT works that alone would be worth the upgrade.
RT works in 1.5 I guess too.

              About realtime scene update:
              - there is no easy way to do it in Standalone
              - I have to code some additional program that we do this (its really complex - its like rewrite vray.exe) so it will take some time (but I already started

V-Ray RT with CPU oder GPU acceleration ?

Does it mean that GPU acceleration is not supported yet ?

                Kind regards

Re: V-Ray for Maya 2.0 beta

RT works for me (I use test builds of 1.5 dated 2011). CPU or GPU, but in GPU mode I don't get V-Ray Sky texture.

                  Ups..
Excuse me please - didn't notice this thread is on 2.0 entirely.

Re: V-Ray for Maya 2.0 beta

voytov, that is interesting nonetheless, cause i thought i would need 2.0 to get RT capability, but it seems this is not the case.

I wonder what the advantage is at this point of upgrading to 2.0. I inquired and the price would be 100 euros. I'd rather buy vb25

Re: V-Ray for Maya 2.0 beta

RT supports GPU - there is "Use OpenCL" option which turn on GPU usage.

Re: V-Ray for Maya 2.0 beta

Where can I download the V-Ray RT for Maya ?

In the Downloadsection of Chaosgroup there is writting "V-Ray RT for Maya Beta Program is closed. Please apply for V-Ray 2.0 for Maya Beta."
So I downloaded and installed the Demoversion of V-Ray 2.00.4 for Maya2012.
Im using the Blender V-Ray Windows 64 Buil from here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=441

But I don't find a "Use OpenCL" option in the exportscript.

What do I do wrong ?

                        Kind regards

Did you get the latest export script? It seems you don't have the right vb25.

Soulofsound, I was also hoping I could stick to 1.5 thanks to 2.01 core inside.
For now I can tell about one issue that makes me think about upgrading: https://github.com/bdancer/vb25/issues/30.
If that's the only one though, I will not hurry.

yes I did update it with "git pull".

In which register should I find the OpenCL option, in der "Render" register ?
