    Re: Distributed Render

I confirmed at Chaos support that Standalone Licence allows only one render node - so you' able to use 2 machines only.
To extend this you need to buy some licence pack (10x for example). Then you'll have additional 10 separate licences also usable as "blind" render nodes.

In fact I believed what I bought for 249 Euros was "1+10" licence, but it appeared to be false...

      Re: Distributed Render

Hello, after successful runs of WIN-WIN and WIN-UNIX configurations, I'm now unable to get UNIX-UNIX working. I have no error message, just "using 0 hosts" in ubuntu 9.1. Ports declared are 20207 (slaves and main computer) shares/mounts are working well.
Slaves act as if they don't hear any commands from UNIX master...

            Re: Distributed Render

I just wanted to add that I also did not get Linux-Linux (Ubuntu) to work, with two physical machines. I finally wrote it off to a licensing error. I also thought at first that I should have 10 render nodes. VRay support told me that the standalone license is only 1 license, so not a single additional node, no distributed rendering. Now I read from voytov that there should be one render node.. I am confused. I will try to get Linux-Win working and will be watching this thread with interest.

"standalone license is only 1 license, so not a single additional node, no distributed rendering"

That really sounds strange considering my licence behavior...

I started my DR testing on WIN-WIN, it worked great. With my "249 euro" licence I was able to render on 2 machines (1:master+ 2:slave1). Trying to extend to more than 1 slaves I was getting error during DR render initialization (no licence available) on slave2, slave3, and next slaves

After upgrading with "10 standalone pack" I'm able to use at least 11 computers simultaneously (haven't reached the maximum setup yet). I'm not sure how the workstation licence is counted, so the total may be even 12 - need to test it..

I think that WIN-WIN is best for licence testing purposes now.

I understand that keeping cross platform stability of such a tool-set is a real burden; great we have WIN-UNIX and WIN-WIN.

2.5 integration is progressing really fast, and what I'd look mainly at now, is to gear DR for that version..

Just check it again on Ubuntu + Ubuntu in VirtualBox works fine. May be you have some routing/firewall/etc troubles? Try to ping the host.

                  ..I will,
Did you declared/unblocked any (20207) port prior to setting up DR?
If yes what was the exact command..?

Hm... default is 20204 may be this is the problem?

                      Re: Distributed Render

                      Hi,

I'm trying out the distributed render settings.
In v2.49 everything works fine, if I set my computer to a render node with IP address I can see the "vray -server" window picking up the task and rendering with my name in the rectangles (rendering half of the image but that's fine).

If I set things up in 2.5 it renders the whole image with my name in the rectangles but the "vray -server" window is quiet, all it says is "waiting for render requests". It doesn't seem to be picking up the tasks.

Could anyone please help and share thoughts on this, I've tried every setting I could, no result...

                      Thanks

hsa013, Hi, I'll look into this, its a little unfinished, but strange that there is no reaction in the server log. Btw it contacts vray server for me, do you use IP or hostname?

                            Hello,

                            I tried DR with v/b2.56
                            But didn't work...

attached files are about my setting.
I use 2 PCs, one is a AZUSA, render client.
another is a KAEDE, render slave.
And on KAEDE PC, I launced "vray.exe -server -portNumber=20207".
on AZUSA PC, with v/b2.56 , exports mesh and starts render.

and 'mov_020_Middle~~~' directory is created. in this there are .vrscene etc
On console window, there are many warning.
A rendered image is almost black

Does the latest build work correctly?

                            Thanks
