I can't get emit to look the way I wan't do, I'd like to preserve some shading...

    More info in this thread:

Thanks, here is the correct link: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=591019

And I should mention with "more info" I meant there is a link to a tutorial for VRay/Max posted there which I can't translate to VRay/Blender

I dont see this tutorial but I guess it uses vraylightmtl (emit in blender) or meshlight (will be in 2.5) or its just glow in post =)

The tutorial is in this post:

The problem with emit is that it completely flatttens the shading even with a tiny amount. But on the other hand that is the expected behaviour, I guess... Maybe I was going about this the wrong way, I was trying to achieve something like this:

            Re: Flourescent glow

I'm interested in this issue as well. Using emit does turn the object into a light source, and I've found that the "generate GI" setting in the object panel of the script can then be used to scale the brightness of the object. But is there a way to then increase the samples for the light this object generates? Similar to the subdivisions for a normal light? At the moment the light from my emitter object is clearly not getting enough samples:

@Benjy, emit (which is converted to vraylightmtl) is not a real mesh light. Real mesh lights will be in 2.5.
