I'm trying to figure out how to do interiors with VRay and as I didn't do much interiors at all I need your help! :]

    Here's my test scene:

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/828706/interrior1.blend

My goal now is to do "nice" view from the windows without post production. I mean - how to add background in most reasonable way? (sphere, plane ?) And should I really use HDRI if yes, can someone send me sample of setup how to do it? I also am in dire need of making this glass look like glass :] I'd really appreciate screencaps of setups or best of all - blends with modifications of my file as how to setup things.

You can map a background photo to a plane, or a spherical photo to a sphere (there are some on Flickr i think)

Give your glass a bit of thickness and some reflection and you'll be fine.

HDRI : In 2.5 you click on the world icon and then on texture and (after creating a new texture) load an hdri as an image. Simple as that. You don't need an HDRI but it will give you more interesting lighting.

      Re: interior render

Glass has actual thickness (it's even double glazed windows) and reflection, that's why I assume I do something really wrong here.

I also am wondering how good adding a plane with texture would be assuming that it would interfere with light (ie blocking it) as well as it will be shaded. Adding it in post isn't a great deal but it would take a little of realism since reflection of outside on inside would be harder to manipulate then actually rendering it from the start.

Just add an image with the world Texture panel, set it to affect Background and set it to a 'Screen' Mapping projection. That will make the background stay as that image and won't block any light. Or, if you're worried about the camera angle changing and thus making the background image move with it, get a high resolution panoramic shot of a background and set it to one of the other Mapping projections, that way the background image won't move with the view.
