  • Normal map in V-ray

    Hi,

    I Have many issues when using normal maps with Vray2.004 renderer in Blender 2.61
    It's impossible for me to have a nice render when using the normal bump options. Is it normal? Is it a bug which has to be fixed?
    I've tried different kind of maps on several 3d objects in my search on resolving this problem without finding any solutions.
    When I put 1.00 on the bump\normal canal and 0.2 for amount, although it is ment to be the maximum number, the renderings are awefull and not enough details assuming the amount range I'm using if I compare to the blender renderer. Do you have any recommandations or solutions to fix my problem?

      Ha...ok, sorry, so,(and sorry for my bad english, in fact i'm french..)

      It's V-ray standalone.
      I made a simple test with this obj.

      The normal map is create with Zbrush.

      -in Zbrush:[attachment=4:3bt1eep9]zbrush.jpg[/attachment:3bt1eep9]
      The normale map is a tiff.

      If I render with blender render with the normal map:
      [attachment=2:3bt1eep9]blender render nm.png[/attachment:3bt1eep9]
      with basics parameters
      [attachment=1:3bt1eep9]blender reglage.jpg[/attachment:3bt1eep9]
      now render with V-ray, sun and GI

      [attachment=0:3bt1eep9]vray.jpg[/attachment:3bt1eep9]
      we don't see the normal map correctly...with this parameters and not strong enough

        And if i put amount in 1, we see the normal but....it's not very nice...the uv seams are visible.. and 1 for the normal canal seems to be the maximum...

              Try "Normal (object)" - looks the same as in BI for me.

                But it's tangent normally, right? And i can't increase amount, it changes the shader... Is it normal?
                And can we increase the normal map (like blender or 3ds) without photoshop ?
                The maximun for the canal bump/normal seems to be 1 and i think is weak...normal too?

                  But it's tangent normally, right?
                  Its called "tangent" in vray plugin param description so I call it the same in UI.

                  Haven't you tried to tweak "Amount"? Its located under normal type selector.

                    Yes!! Thank you very much!! It works!
                    But i think it has a bug because:
                    -I launch blender
                    -I import a obj
                    -I put it a normal map ...and there, none map appears on render.
                    -On the other hand, if i move the number of amount to 0.2 for example at 1, then to 1 at 0.2, it works perfectly well!!
                    But may be you already know... just in case...
