  • Distributed Renderig: Irradiance animation (rendering) pass

    Hi there,
I try to set up an small renderfarm (4 z600 and 1 z800) at our school.

sofar so good everything works fine for still rendering!

I followed the tutorial in the forum early, its sooo much faster

now i would like to render an Animation, is it possible to do this!? for 3dmax there is backburner...

    i have to use Animation(prepass) + Animation(Rendering)
rendersetting i use are pretty much this ones: http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/ ... _anim2.htm
i have changing lights (blinking emiting material) so i think i have to use this IR an LC calculation... (prepass...)
or am i wrong? can i render this with incremental ir or somehow else? won't there be a lot of noise?

in the prepass all machines are working, but in the "Animation (rendering)" just my computer (the one blender is running, is rendering...)

is there any way to render animation (rendering) pass on more than one machine??

    cheers,
    philipp

Re: Distributed Renderig: Irradiance animation (rendering) p

I suggest to use Brute force for primary bounces for animation especially if you have a render farm.
Also check pretty new control called "Camera path" in IM and LC - its mostly better then actual animation modes.

Ok, I'll check this - seems some problems with paths to im map. What is your DR setup? I mean operating systems.

Re: Distributed Renderig: Irradiance animation (rendering) p

      win7 on all maschines (5x hp z600 - 2x xeon quadcore)

the newest build of your git, setup as in the link in my first post.

      the share folder is:

      c:\render\

share name as in windows "render"

the blendfile and the textures are in a folder in Documents.
and one more thing, if I use image sequenzes, it does just copy the first file (image_0001) not the others, i copyed the files manually in the c:\render\sence\textures and than i work all good!

and is there a timeout function? because it happend once, that one maschine got stuck on a bucket, and it did "render" for 10 min, i had to quite the render on the server... and let vray write its files again, but it was not a problem to start (flickering etc) at the exact same frame!
it there a way to speed up this? because there a no changes in the geometry for 1000 frames (i just export the geometry once, not in the animation mode, an than after this i mark "Animation" in the pipeline) but still it takes quite long...

bruteforce (subdiv: 32, for testing but should be higher?) works with Camera Path pretty good sofar (30 sec/fps!) never tried it before, no flickering! just noise, but with
"TIME DEPENDENT" ON (DMC sampler) it looks pretty good!! tomorrow i'll try again IR +LC with CAMERA PATH.

and another question, is it possible to add blendfiles or rendertask in queue? so i don't have to start them manually one after the other? i think it must be somehow easy, but i don't have a clou :/

I have an animation with 7 cameras, i tried with bind camera to (ctrl+b) markers, this way it jumps to the next camera, in the viewport, but vray will just calculate the gi from the last active camera, and than there will be big black dots etc. am i doing something wrong? or is it not possible sofar

anyway once again, thx u so much for this exporter! i'll send you some money soon, Christmas present is almost sold (who needs a old columbus racing bicycle (dura ace) in winter anyway

      cheers

                indeed!
one good way would be to upload builds on graphicall.org there are so many people downloading, and if there is one build of you every week... the people would see that there is something going on! and try it out maybe!

and maybe if you would ask over blendernation for programming support! and i would update the gallery at you website just that the people see that there is more an more going on!

Same problem here.. when using universal preset, only the first machine is used for the actual rendering..
All others are giving 'ping not received from host **** for 607063 miliseconds, dropping connection

Re: Distributed Renderig: Irradiance animation (rendering) p

                      hi there,

the distributed still does not work at my "renderfarm" (IR animation (rendering) pass)... is a problem of my setup? or does it not work globaly`?

if i use bruteforce, i still get flickering... (this is for a differt project, now charakters are moving around...)

the lightmaps a stored "//lightmaps\im.vrmap" in my projectfolder (C:\Users\004\Documents\philipp\seetec\seetec\s_00 5)

the sharedfolder is placed directliy at "c:\render"

is this a problem, should i share the projectfolder?

                      kind regards,
                      philipp

p.s. i attached a screenshot, maybe this helps...

Re: Distributed Renderig: Irradiance animation (rendering) p

maybe it is the same problem as with the images...
i had a imagesequenz, but just the first image was copied to the sharedfolder, "c:\render\filename\textures\" i copied the others manually... this is a bit of a hassle, but works fine sofar...

here is a testscene, so you can see my setup...

would be great if the animation pass would render on all computers, sofar this is the only way to avoid flickering... the camera path helps little bit... but still flickering!

little video in which you can see the evil flickering and parts of my setup...
                          [vimeo:2xzb6h7l]35316031[/vimeo:2xzb6h7l]

how else could i avoid this evil flickering?

                          here is the blendfile
