  • Dome light

    hi all !

how I can have the dome light ? i like also to map the light whit an Hdr, and the same for the other "normal" light..

Can be useful have some button beside the color to map and add node, like in Maya and use the also node editor to create complex materials, light ecc...this is very useful.

i did not undestand the way Vray work on the node editor in Blender

    My best Regards !

    Ciao!

I get that error when trying to render with a dome light mapped with an HDRI.

Has anyone else occurred an error like this? Thank you.

That is a test file I've been playing with.

Now, whenever I remove the world tree and render with a hemi light, spherical, HDRI mapped, VRay Blender force closes every time.
I have tried the Colour and Output outputs in the Colour Texture input and Dome Texture input in all manner of combinations.
It gets through all 3 IM prepasses, then gives the error in the previous post before the actual render process starts.

This seems like a bug to me? I wouldn't think trying to render with one light, a sphere, and a plane should cause any errors.

I have tried two nightlies now. 8/27 and 8/28.

            Thank you.

The issue is that you have "Min Subdivs" > "Max Subdivs" under the "Image Sampler" panel. So, set these params correctly to fix the crash. Later I'll add this check into the exporter.

Thank you for looking at that.

I would like to add this, so please make sure I'm right.

I have found the best way to use an HDRI is NOT with and image texture node mapped to an environment node. This creates extremely long render times and noise.
The best way, I have found, is to use a Hemi light with the desired HDRI spherically mapped to the light, both with a environment mapping node and with the spherical selection in the Lamp tab.

bdancer, are these your findings also? Thank you.

These are just two completely different ways:
                  - If you map HDRI to the Hemi light (VRay Dome Light) it will produce direct lighting (so could be used without GI).
                  - If you map HDRI to the environment it will produce only indirect lighting so could not be used without GI.
Just choose what way is more suitable for the particular scene.
