  • VRay performance on Linux

    Hi!

I am using VRay 1.5 under Linux and Windows and I've noticed that the Windows version renders MUCH faster. Just starting vrayblender and rendering the default cube takes at least double the time on my Linux system, which is about 25% faster than the Windows one! If I increase the tile size it goes quite a bit faster, but still... Has anybody else noticed this? Anything I can do or optimize?

    Thanks!

On my machine rendering on Linux is faster
Anyway its not an exporter issue. You could try contacting ChaosGroup support.
    Btw, whats your Linux distrib?

      Re: VRay performance on Linux

Debian sid. i had Ubuntu before and it was the same. I have to do some tests with heavyer scenes, I think it is not really a problem of rendering but there is some more lag when switching buckets. So with heavyer scenes where a bucket takes a 10 seconds or so the time should even out. I will test some more.

        Re: VRay performance on Linux

I guess Debian has more server optimized kernel (ability to run apps under load) - may be you will have to build more desktop like kernel (more resources to currenty active app; you'll have to tweak sheduler and other stuff).
But for example with Ubuntu 10.04 I have no performance issues. Anyway we could test this, but I already use vray 2.
