  • VRay OS X Mountain Lion Problem

    Hi there,

I tried today installing VRay 2.0 + the license server and following Sebastians installation guide I added a systemlink to vray for OS X.

However in Blender I only get non shaded previews and rendering or interactive rendering does not work.
    The image viewer remains dark.
The console does not show any error message.

Does anybody have an idea what is going wrong?
I am on Mountain Lion and installed the VRay Standalone which also now is not inside the Maya.app but in a folder next to it.

      Hi Claas
I think bdancer is a little bit tied up with time lately.

Do you have any more information/
-What do you mean by non shaded previews?
-Does the Vray-Frame-Buffer open when you render?
-Does the console say anything at all perhaps suggesting scene has exported or render completed (or not) etc?

      Some extremely wild guesses;
-However in Blender I only get non shaded previews - suggest to use "VrayMaterial preview" render engine
-The image viewer(assuming your talking of the VFB) remains dark. - global illumination is not turned on

Re: VRay OS X Mountain Lion Problem

        I have installed the
        dongle software
the license server and started it
        the vray stand alone

and I created a symbol link for vray acording sebastians tip so that blender on os c
        can auto detect the vray.exe.

when I create a scene, save and hit render, nothing happens.
Blender only exports the scene and thats it.

VRAY simply does not get found/started.

I don't really know this stuff but is it possible to use when manually set vray path on osx?

Re: VRay OS X Mountain Lion Problem

I tried that as well but it does not work either.

            I am linking to: .../Autodesk/Maya2013/vray/bin/vray.
There is also a ChaosGroup folder with .../V-Ray/Maya2013-x64/bin/ but there is no vray exe inside.

Material Preview seems to work, so I would guess for that part Blender can reach the VRAY exe.

Inside the process activity I noticed that VRAY.bin actually pops up works and then quites. And when using the realtime engine it stays longer of course.

So I guess that for what ever reason the frame buffer in OS X does not pop-up.

                Hi bdancer.

ah great - that at least clears it.
Maybe you want to put that onto the installation webpage as a note.

Downloading the 32 bit version now.
                Thank you for everything.

Re: VRay OS X Mountain Lion Problem

actually now I am really confused. I removed the 64 bit vray and vrayserver service and installed the 2010 32bit version
i created a new vray symbol link (removed the old)

but still the frame buffer does not show up at all.

                    Hey BDancer

it looks at least by what ChaosGroup says that they got the frame buffer running or integrated into OS X 64.

                    Hello,

V-Ray frame buffer is available for Mac OS and Maya 2012/2013 with the latest V-Ray builds.
                    I hope this helps you.

I am not sure about technicalities but thought about passing that to you.

I've downloaded the last VRay build, I'm on OSX Mountain Lion too, and there's still no frame buffer for the 64 bits version.
Did you specified it was for the standalone?

Did you get VfB to work? I just installed this and I have Vray for Maya license, is it possible to use VfB and 64bit version.

                          Any tips?

There is a VFB window in Maya itself, but not in Standalone x64.
You could try "Render feedback" option in Exporter tab, it still experimental but could work, it shows only render progress not LC or IM pre-passes.

Yup, I talked to Vlado and he said that they did not fix it yet.

I tried render feedback but I have errors using it. Even though I get picture in Blender it has few artifacts on it.
