  • volumetric light HELP - part2

    Hi

I know that the topic is on the forum but I can't find an answer for one question:
Can I create such light beams. As you can see there's no fog at all but the light beams are just fine, and the scene is quite bright:

There's plenty of smoke in the air and some very bright spot lights behind a mask. The performers also have a spot light on them.
You can use fog effect in world panel, with similar spot lights and mask to achieve a like effect.

I have used fog distance of 75 and high contrast levels adjustment to achieve similar balance for example. You might adjust distance/ light power for desired contrast etc.

      Hi,
I ran onto new problem considering volume lights/fog.
I'm unable to exclude the fog (fog gizmo geometry) from being illuminated by the lights that I chose to act like this. Every light will interact with every fog in scene no mater what I declare in light's Exclude/Include parameter window..

I'm almost sure it was working before..
Andrey can you inspect that please?

..I checked this. The truth is, selective lighting for fog containers never worked before. And I'm confused now:
        1. should it work at all (maybe somebody can check it under MAX)?
        2. What is the planned effect of "Light mode:" "Use per-gizmo lights" setting??

        Please help!

Hmm.. Currently I've achieved selective fog lighting by assigning lamp name in fog settings ("Lights" slot).. but it only allows one name...
So what if I need a list of lamps to be considered during fog calculation?

This param supports ';' separated list of object or group names.

Re: volumetric light HELP - part2

Now I realize there was no bug (talking about the overall ability to selective light the fog I was not right that "selective lighting for fog containers never worked before"). I just didn't know the right way of declaring light sets for calculation.

              Once again,
Thanks very much for your work Andrey!!

I'm trying to create a similar effect, but I do not follow your steps.
could you explain better how to do?

If you want spotlight halos but not see fog in general, you need a low density fog (ie a high "distance setting") and a VERY bright spotlight.

Does this still apply in the 2.69 build? I'm only able to select a lamp/spot from the list.

By the way the latest features are awesome!

Hm, looks like it's no more possible to edit this list by hand, ok, I'll rewrite this attribute to support Groups then. Thanks for pointing to this )
