This is not actually a problem.
I think I should share this information.
I am testing vrayblender on a linux x64 machine running ubuntu.
I successfully compiled vrayblender. (btw Andrey your python build file is awesome)

My demo vray linux version run out of date. hrrr...
So I installed my windows vray on my ubuntu x64 machine under wine.
    Do you know what?
    The installation run perfectly!
I then rendered some old files and boy...it rendered fast!
Yes, even faster than on native windows! More or less 5% faster on wine than windows7

After that I changed sytem date just to have my demo linux back.
And my demo vray started working fine.
    Do you know what?
The native linux vray rendered slower more than 30%!

So my conclusion for now is:
    Leave windows for sure but...
Better to use windows vray under wine!

Can anyone confirm this or am I seeing it wrongly?
Here is a screenshot of vraylinux(left) vs vraywindowswine(right)!

P.S.: Vraylinux is detected automatically by vrayblender. vraywindowswine must be selected on "/home/user/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Chaos Group/V-Ray/Standalone for x64/vray/bin/vray.exe"

Have you tested an heavier scene? It could be that the difference with these short times is related with the access time to the files that can differ by OS. I see that also the standalone version is different, right?

      Hi Worufu,
Yes, vray versions are slightly different 19003linux against 20001windowsunderwine.
But it shouldn't be reason for such difference, right?

I tested with heavier scene files and it seems that the difference is lower in percentage. It stabilizes on a 5% increase of time under native vraylinux.
That makes vraynativelinux similar to vraynative windows.

But what surprises me is the better behaviour of vraywindows under wine!
It's even better than windows! Why?

But I would love to hear other tests!

P.S.: Meanwhile, I was curious about andrey's vrayblender windows build and it installs perfectly under wine. The 3dview is a bit slower than my vrayblender linux compilation, but it runs perfectly. Anyway, for now I will use my vrayblender linux with vray under wine just because of the speed increase.

        arquitecto benchmark

Here is a 340MB scene with lots of textures with a total of 100MB.
This time, it's the same big diference.
8m49s on vraylinux and 6m20s on vraywindows under wine.
        Here is the screenshot.
The linux time is similar to windows time.
Wine is certainly not an emulator

I guess versions must be the same and strangely gamma is a little different, anyway yes - its not an emulator =)
In Blender 2.4 times, there was even a "Use wine" button in the exporter because it was difficult to find native linux version that time =)

            Re: vray_linux vs vray_windows vs vray_wine

            Hi Andrey,

On my ubuntu build I noticed that the material preview render only works if it detects vraylinux installed.
When we select the vray.exe wine path it renders the image faster but we loose material preview if we don't have vraylinux.

Don't you think the material preview render should be made by the path we insert manually?

Its currently not possible due to preview realization in Blender. I'll think of the workaround.
