  • Irradiance map animation modes

    Hi,

I have been busy (trying to) render an animation using the Irradiance map Animation prepass and rendering modes. This becaus of this tutorial:
    http://www.workshop.mintviz.com/tutoria ... sing-vray/

    This is what I do:
1 Render out a Light Cache map and save it
2 Render out IM maps in IM Animation prepass Mode and save them
3 Set IM Mode to Animation rendering and LC to from file

the result; a lot of blotches and light leakes espcially in the corners. [attachment=0:2wjunvsm]render_Camera.0003.jpg[/attachment:2wjunvsm]

Thing is that if I render only the LC it looks fine, if I render the IM prepass files it looks fine too, only when rendering the LC in combination with IM in Animations rendering mode it goes wrong (see image).

    Any ideas?!

Light Cache at 500 subd seems to be very low. Have you something moving in the scene beyond the camera?

There are no moving objects in the scene. I set LC subdivs to 3300 to fly through mode with camera path enabled, then rendered out one frame for the LC (not every frame since the scene is static).

You may try enabling "retrace" for light cache, usually it can help with light leaks.

I had retrace enabled. The scene is lightened indirectly only, could it be the cause? Or should I calculate the LC differently than for a single frame?

You could add area lights in "Simple Portal" modes in windows to improve GI.

              Re: Irradiance map animation modes

What was the value of "Min rate" and "Max rate" in IM settings in Animation(prepass) mode?
What was the light subdivs value? If you went with default value 8, go for 16.

500 subdivs for LC is low, but I think 3300 subdivs is not necessary, try 1500 or 2000, if you see any difference.

If there is no moving object, did you try multiframe incremental IM mode?

                Re: Irradiance map animation modes

I haven't had time to rerender, but in another animation I solved problems setting Sample look up to nearest in stead of density Based. (IM prepass tab)

Min/max was -3/0, subdivs was indeed 8. I used multiframe incremental because I was (slavishly) following an tutorial, I now use Animation prepass. I still wonder if I should use Single frame or Fly through for the LC though.
