  • Small bug on texture mapping

    Hi Andrei,

I think I may have found a small bug on texture mapping.
When you have a texture assigned to reflection and glossiness, and put the same value on the slider you encounter crazy results.
But if you put a different value, even very close, no problem occurs.
Once, the material disappeared from the render but I forgot to save the image.
Here are my tests. Here, with same value, material gets fully reflexive like if the texture on reflection became fully white...

Re: Small bug on texture mapping

I just tried to reproduce the error you describe. I had no problems. I used the same image (png) for the same texture slot, and set it to influence both Reflections and Glossiness. The image is mapped to UV coordinates (only one face in the cube, that is). Did you changed the default reflection (black) and glossy value (1.0) in the material editor?

Re: Small bug on texture mapping

Sorry, as soon as I get to my computer I will pack a file.
I placed a medium gray on the reflection slot.
The glossyness slider is at 0.99.
A difuse texture and a normal texture completes the material.
The rest is pretty much default setup.

But if you put 0.31 and 0.3 the result is correct...

            Hello Again...

I tried your file, and got the same result as you (values the same give strange result, values slightly different are fine).

Interestingly, if reference the same image in two separate textures (one for reflection, one for glossiness) this also fixes the issue, even if the values are the same. Wonder why this is....

            Regards,

            Rob.

Re: Small bug on texture mapping

I'll check the blending code, but anyway: the textures are blended over the corresponding value of the param. Lets say reflection texture will be blended over reflection color. So leave the reflection color black - may be this will be what you expect.

Re: Small bug on texture mapping

Hola, Arquitecto. I checked the test file. Yes, your problem persists even when I turn the reflection color to Black and Gloss to 1. However, in my previous post I did not had the same problem.
Have you tried a new *.blend? I remember when I tried to apply a Skymap to an old scene (done in V-Ray/Blender 2.64, opened in latest build) and it did not show (black sky); nonetheless, the same Skymap worked fine in the latest build scenes. Perhaps it is something similar.

                Suerte.
