  • Separate Settings for Blender and Blender (With V-Ray Additions)

When I set the Blender Render Panel>Render>Display to be New Window and save the Startup File then when I open Blender (With V-Ray Additions) the same Display setting is set to New Window instead of Keep UI. When I set the Blender (With V-Ray Additions) to Keep UI and save the Startup File then it is changed in regular Blender. They are both obviously using the same settings directory in App Data.

How can I have Blender (With V-Ray Additions) use its own settings/startup file instead of stomping on my Blender settings/startup file?

Create 'config' folder under your Vray for Blender/version/ and save startup file again.

Example path where to create config folder is: C:\BlenderVray\2.77\config

I added the config folder as you suggested.

I changed my DPI in user preferences and then saved user settings and got this error:
      Cannot open file C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\Blender 2.77 (With V-Ray Additions)\2.77\config\userpref.blend@ for writing: Permission denied

I get the same error when I try and save the startup file for Blender 2.77 (With V-Ray Additions)

Any idea what is going on and how I can fix the problem?

Dont know whats your config folder permissions (or even OS), but on Win7 you dont need to run Blender in administrator mode to save Startup file.

I am using Windows 7 Professional. Unless I Run as administrator I can't save any settings. I would love to know how to configure it so I don't have to RMB click on the shortcut and Run as administrator everytime I want to work when I might want to save a setting. Any ideas?

Solved my own problem. If you have a better way please let me know. Thanks for your help!

If you RMB click on the Blender (With V-Ray Additions) and click on "Run as administrator" should solve the problem.

To always run the program as administrator do the following:
RMB click on the Blender (With V-Ray Additions) shortcut
            Choose Properties
            Go to the Compatibility tab
In Privilege Level, check Run this program as an administrator
Click Change settings for all users button
Again, in Privilege Level, check Run this program as an administrator
Press OK, and press OK again
Note: You will always have to click Yes on User Account Control everytime you run the program

Select your Vray for Blender folder or 2.77 folder, rightclick and select Properties, Security tab, set your user and allow full control. You may need to do this as administrator.
