  • Kelvin temperature value doesn't reflect the value currently being used

I believe that the way things are currently functioning, when I view the temperature color of my lights, Kelvin is reporting the last value entered but not the actual kelvin value that is entered for that light. This makes working with kelvins really confusing because I either have to remember values entered for each light or write them down when making adjustments. Is this a known bug or is there something I am doing wrong?

You mean kelvin value is not stored in file? Well, yes, this is how it works. I'll think of the workaround.

Here is a video explanation in case what I wrote wasn't understood.

The3DNut, ok got you; this is currently how it works, since Blender doesn't have kelvin on it's own I've hacked it a bit to set the color from the kelvin value. So basically what this mode does is just updates on your input and sets the color.
I'll try to find out some work around for this...

Good to know. I really appreciate all that you have done to bring V-Ray to Blender. I personally prefer kelvins since it is what is used in light engineering and in my opinion it is much simpler to use. I appreciate what hacking you did to implement kelvins and if we are all lucky, you will find a way to preserve the values. It would also be really convenient if in the Light Lister (Render Layers Panel>Lights) showed the kelvin value for each light so that it could be easily tweaked when balancing lights.

Thanks again for all you do,
          Bryson

If it helps - Blender has color temperatures using blackbody node from converter...

I am familiar with there being a Blackbody node in Cycles but I am just not finding it in V-Ray for Blender...where is it?

Textures > Temperature, connect it to light node 'Color tex' input. I dont know why Sun node has no color tex.

                  Thanks JuhaW
It is nice to know there is some kind of work around so that I can see the Kelvin values that I input. That is too bad to hear about the Sun. I ran some tests and found that the light output using the Temperature node is slightly darker in all instances from using Kelvin values right in the data panel. So something is weird.
