  • V/B 3.5 error with denoiser

There's something that's not working quite right with the denoiser. When I run a render, and denoiser has finished processing, the vfb goes to the channel "effectsResult" but it shows black. Here is a simple test file.

This is Dec 20 builds for both vray (27111) and vray for blender (6d43b8f)

Denoiser's Name should be "VRayDenoiser" not "denoiser". Fixed default with https://github.com/bdancer/plugins_d...efd0cc59b704dd in the exporter.

Actually it should work fine with the name "denoiser" too, as that is the standard name of the element in Maya and V-Ray Standalone. Asen will fix it.

interesting. So when it's fixed fixed, I will still be able to give the denoiser channel an arbitrary name as before? (I've been taking to using "s" to keep my file names shorter.)

          Hopefully yes.

thanks! Now that I see how it's working (using the "Vraydenoiser" name for now) I see that there is no separate denoiser or glare channel now as before. I'd gotten used to having those extra channels to play with. Is there a way to have those channels as well, or is it all combined in the effects channel now?

I see the interactive lens effects can only be adjusted in that effects channel now. Before, it was only in the RGB channel. My question - is the RGB channel now unaffected by any of the effects sources, or is there a way to add back the lens effects in the RGB channel? I'm not asking to change anything right now, I see that it's an evolving workflow. I'd just like to understand if I'm only supposed to use the effects channel for any interactive VFB changes, or is there some way to adjust any of the other channels.

Eventually you will be able to make the denoiser channel on its own visible (without the lens effects) by adjusting its "mode" parameter.

The original RGB channel will remain unaffected by the denoiser/lens effects. All the effects (and any others we might add in the future) will be applied to the effectsResult channel only.

I don't quite understand that. Which other channels do you want to adjust?

This is still work in progress, so any feedback is welcome!

              Best regards,

This is fixed for tomorrow's nightly.

                Best regards,
                Asen

                  Thanks for the clarifications!

I think what I'm asking is that I'd like to be able to apply the lens effects to any of the channels I'm saving, like the RGB channel. Sometimes the denoiser channel doesn't get me the result I need, so I like to be able to merge it with the RGB channel (for example to add back some slight graininess) or use just the RGB channel. In this workflow, I lose lens effects on the non-denoised RGB channel.

You can set the bloom or glare mode to "Render element only". In that case, you will get additional render elements with just the bloom and glare. Then you can blend them with the final image result (denoised or not) as you wish. It should work fine for most practical purposes.

                    Vlado

Let me go offtopic with your thread again. I see Vray for Blender 3.5, is that still using 3.4 Vray? I can not find 3.5 Vray build in nightlies.

Dunno - may need to email support if you can't access the current standalone builds. Do you have a standalone license or one for vray for max? It may be that there are not the same builds posted.

I have Vray for Maya and MODO. Need to contact support. As I see only stable builds for Maya and under 3.5 folder everything is empty. Thanks, apologise for offtopic.

So far everything is working well, now that I understand the change in the workflow. Very happy to have the glare combined with the denoiser, thanks for making it happen!
