  • EXR file - empty layer

    Hi,
    1. When i'm saving my render as exr file RenderID channel is empty. There is no problem with png or jpg formats. Maybe it's an Affinity Photo's issue (?).

    2. Is it possible to save just one render channel ? Every time i save as PNG every layer is created as separate file. No matter what i choose in Frame Buffer from the channels list. It's a little bit annoying when i need just an AO pass for example and then i must delete unwanted files. Yes, "Save Current Channel" icon is selected
    Best Regards,
    Marcin Mirkowicz.

Yes, I'd love to see some options there, but I don't think that's available to save only a specific channel. If there is a way, I would like to know it too.

      1) It works with Affinity Photo, I've tested saving .exr from VFB and Blender output.

VRay saves ID channels (correctly) as integer channels and that is most likely not supported in affinity. Saving from the VFB may save the color representation? You can check with exrheader.

Unfortunately i can't make it work. I save layered exr from VFB. Preview in VFB is fine, but Affinity Photo ( Designer as well ) makes this ID layer too bright and desaturated. I have checked it with brightness/contrast filter in Affinity Photo.

liquidstudio, but hey, its only object pass, doesnt matter how colorfull they are compared to original, they are for masking/selecting areas for postpro. Look if another render passes are ok.

Yes, i know that's an object pass for masking But it's a lot easier when i can see what i'm selecting. Other passes are fine. Reflection pass, alpha, rgb etc. Saving to png works fine but it produces many files. I would like to have a single layered exr file to keep my folder clean. Saving separate png's just for an ID mask, combining it with other layers and getting rid of unnecesary files may not seem like a lot of work, but...imagine doing this 10 Times a day, 5 days a week. You get the point

Thank You, but it's not exactly what i was looking for. I've noticed that saving just an ID pass as a single exr file works fine. It opens up in Affinity as expected - flat-coloured image just like in VFB. I think there is something wrong with VFB itself when you save a multi-layer exr. And strangely it affects only ID pass...Anyway thaks for help and interest.
