  • V5 two questions

    Hi

I am using 3.7 at the moment for my aviation renders. With the new version will I still be able too ...

    1. Use an HDRI image in the enviro tab and view it as a backdrop ?

    2. Will it accept VDB files as I want to render clouds ?

    Many thanks

    Hi jnc

    1. Use an HDRI image in the enviro tab and view it as a backdrop ?
If you are asking whether you can use an HDRI as a background, you can do so through the V-Ray Overrides tab > Environment > Override Background. After enabling the option, you can load a VRayBitmap texture and add the desired HDR image. You can check our docs page at https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...rideBackground for more details. If that's not what you meant, please elaborate a bit more on what you are after.

    2. Will it accept VDB files as I want to render clouds ?
Yes, you can load VDB files (and even sequences) through the V-Ray menu > Volumetrics > V-Ray VolumeGrid, so you should have no issues with that. You can have a further read at https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ering+In-Depth

Do let us know if you have any further questions

      Thank you.

Yes I was asking about using an HDRI as a background. I have HDRI images that are full 360 degree in both rotation and pitch, so posing an aircraft is much more realistic. At the moment I simply put the VRay bitmap into the enviro and then from the 'workflow menu' use the 'Vray Domelight texture view ' option and set the correct resolution. This works so well and is so easy.
