  • Secondary Rays Multiplier object tag?

    Hello,

In 3.7 we used for the grass/trees to setup the Secondary rays multiplier to 0.1-0.2 to speed up things. Can't see this option in V5.

    How is it handled now?

It is still in the Vray compositing tag, they have just moved the feature inside another tab

There's no comp tag anymore and no setting called as secondary rays,

Do you mean the Object Properties tag and subdivs multiplier?

Yes it’s the subdivision multiplier, they have changed name and position but it’s still the same

Strange, because changing this, seems like it has no impact on rendering times.

I just made a test using the sample rate and it seems that the multiplier is not working right now..

Many thanks for checking and confirming!
That's why I wasn't sure it is the same feature.

V-Ray 5's sampler handles all the subdivisions automatically and that is why all the subdivision parameters were deprecated and hidden from lights, materials, Render settings etc. This is also the reason why it seems that it doesn't work for you.
We didn't hide this specific parameter inside the object properties because it affects a few more things, and it could still be used in some very rare cases (like caustics for example)

                  Thanks Ivan,

Did you test if the automatic setting is faster than earlier 3.7 method with grass/trees/plants?

Would be a shame if it would force longer rendering times. If not, must check.

The automatic setting was introduced with V-Ray Next in our other integrations, and it has been tested by pretty much every user since back then. If there were any slowdowns we would have known until now since it is a V-Ray core feature. If you happen to have such slowdowns I would gladly investigate them, but I doubt that the reason would be the subdivisions.
