  • Vray Animating Bitmaps

    Hi,

I am trying to use an jpeg image sequence as a bitmap. I have 50 images, so I set the "movie start" to 0 and "movie end" to 50 and then hit "calculate". When I check the "animate" tag on the bitmap preview viewer, I can see the image changing, however, I can not see the image changing in the viewport or the render preview when I run some tests. Is there a step that I am missing?

    Thank you!

    Hey ntoldi ,

You're not missing anything. Unfortunately we still don't support loading sequences, and it is in our to-do list with higher priority to be implemented it in the near future. Thank you for letting us know.

      Hi shaio ,

Thank you for your quick response. That is bummer! I hope to see that added sometime soon. Just curious, maybe it is just my lack of knowledge, but how am I able to see an animated preview if loading sequences isn't an option?

You're seeing them because Cinema 4D is handling the texture preview not V-Ray.

Oh no! That is a no go!
I'm in a middle of a huge project. I switched from 3.7 to 5 the hard way, with a lot of workarounds and now I'm not able to render animated textures?
Do you have a workaround for me? Are videos (mp4) supported?

Hi klex167, we raised the priority on supporting texture sequences, so they will be available soon.

I'm not sure what is the purpose of this comment, but we didn't suggest this because having an MP4 file going through the VRayC4DBake texture could have a performance and quality impact. If I suggested this as a workaround for example then someone who isn't as advanced user as Sirio might take this as normal and start using it that way.
We're currently working on the support for sequences and will be available soon.

"at the end" should only mean the position of the blog, not something that could be misunderstood - unfortunate phrase

klex167 we've added support for loading a sequence of files loaded via the Cinema 4D bitmap and it is available in the latest stable builds that can be downloaded from here. Before rendering make sure to calculate the sequence inside the bitmap and let us know if you're experiencing any issues so we can have a look.
