Is the visibility parameter (Display tag) fixed in the new V5 hotfix version ? I'm trying to animate the visibility but it doesn't seem to work. According to Chaos, it should be fixed.

    Hello it_refplus ,

Ideally this should be done from the object properties tag applied to the object since the Display tag is mostly for use in the viewport and won't fit within V-Ray's workflow to control the visibility from there. I have added a feature request about this (VC4D-829) and I will let you know once we have more information.

In the meantime, you can animate the visibility of an object by animating "Visible in Renderer" in the basic tab of the Attributes of the object. Please check the screenshot here.

Thanks. But Visible in Renderer doesn't animate. It's either On or OFF. I need to fade in the visibility of the object over several frames.

I understand. Keep in mind that I have edited my previous answer.

We will see how this can be implemented and will keep you updated. As a workaround, you could animate the Opacity of the material, applied to the object in order to fade it over several frames.

I hope this is of help.

For a quick solution you can animate the opacity of the object material, full white will be visible, full black will be invisible:

This is what I'm actually doing. Works well. But when you have an object made of several objects with several materials, that means more work animating each single material. Much more practical with one single display tag. Also, when animating a material's transparency, you can see through the object and all the objects inside, like an Xray. With the display tag, you can see only the outside of the object that fades out. Looks better.

animating the opacitiy is a very crude workaround. we need animatable visibility parameters in display tag or object property tag. thats an essentially feature, i use it every day. so i have to wait until it is implemented to work with vray5.

                Hello leo_a,

As I mentioned in one of my previous replies, we have added a feature request for this. I will let you know as soon as we have any updates on the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

                  Hello all,

I am glad to inform you that with the latest stable build we have implemented an option for animating visibility in the V-Ray Object Properties tag. The option lives in the Visibility Options tab as shown here.

You can download and install the latest stable build from here.
