  • Problems with Alpha Channel

I still hope that in the next update the transfer von 3.7 materials to VRay 5.0 is updated - to change all trees and grasses is a pain the a.. - however maybe I am tired, but I don't get it, why my alpha channel is not working? If I create a new material it works, but the one I have copied, doesn't. Also quite often the opacity channel is wrong translated and I have to update this manually. Any help much appreciated (as this applies to many of my Evermotion Scenes).
Attached a screenshot - maybe I missed a button somewhere?

    Hello acidnoid,

Can you share some more details about the V-Ray 3.7 materials? Are those V-Ray advanced or V-Ray Standard materials? Could you share a test scene with such materials which are not converted correctly?

If I create a new material it works, but the one I have copied, doesn't
Can you elaborate more on that? Sharing a screen recording where the issue is visible would be very helpful.

    Thank you.

        acidnoid ,

Did you get to the bottom of this issues?

My problem is Alpha Mask don't knock through to transparency. Another feature that was used in 3.7 is not available in Vray5.

Do you still get the spinning wheel? Mine is better. But now my cursor is constantly sticking every time I update a setting in Vray5. This Vray5 is really getting on my nerves... I spend all day trying to figure out why things don't work.

          Hello bern_diener,

How do you set the transparency of your material? Are you doing that through the "Refraction" channel? If yes, please make sure that the "Affect alpha" option in the "Refraction advanced" rollout is set to "Color+ alpha" or "All channels".

              Hi Aleks,

I wanted to give you some feedback.

If you look at my screenshot - you can see how I set up my alpha masks which need to knock through to transparency.

I couldn't get it to work and eventually found that the TILE setting must be checked. However, I don't want it to TILE, so it creates dead-end for me. Maybe this is something you can submit as feedback.

              Hope it can help.

                  Hello bern_diener,

Please note that the issue with the opacity mask when the "tile" option is disabled has been fixed and you can find the fix in our latest stable build. You can download it from here:
