  • Release notes - nightly builds

Hi, the last 3 nightly builds are empty or have no new information's in their release notes.

Does it mean, no bugs fixed?

Don't you think you could share a dynamic bug list with your codes?
    And what are your priorities.

I mean Vray5 is definitely getting better and I appreciate a lot the effort of you guys here in the forum, trying to answer everything and staying calm.

But on our side the frustration is big. Nearly no project without any alternative workflow and sacrifices because of any bug or missing feature.
Asking some 3rd party plugin producer, if Vra5 will be supported, you get almost everywhere the same answer... "depends on CG, still too many bugs...."

Not even 3d Quakers is updating forester for any reason after 9 months.. got the feeling they don't take it serious...

Basics like render time issue with animations, lights with multi instances... or even a sphere with activated "render perfect sphere"....
Still trying to stay patient, not easy

    Thanks..

Hi haniel1107, about the empty release notes - the stable nightly builds are shared for several V-Ray integrations. This means that sometimes there are fixes that do not relate V-Ray for Cinema 4D, hence the changelog contents are "No relevant changes".

Don't you think you could share a dynamic bug list with your codes?
    And what are your priorities.
Unfortunately we can not share a dynamic bug list with the codes at the moment.

But on our side the frustration is big. Nearly no project without any alternative workflow and sacrifices because of any bug or missing feature.
I'm sorry to hear that, but we do our best to fix all reported issues, while trying to also reintroduce missing features. We appreciate your patience and strive to make V-Ray for Cinema 4D ever better, but this requires time.

      Hi Deyan,
      understanding and thanks for replying.

It's just from the other perspective.. going back to 3.7 is for not really an option. Switching always ahead and back is not so easy..
Most of the time it is not a hobby, working with Cinema 4D, it is business for us...

Anyway, hoping for fixes and new features, soon...
      Thanks

        Hey haniel1107 .

Thank you for your feedback. I'll try to add a few more words to what Deyan posted.

Our change log is build dynamically based on what is reported and fixed in our system. However, as many automated build systems we also experience issues with the system itself, and sometimes we need to run the system manually, leading to an empty change log. Sharing the list with the codes wouldn't be possible because during development we report a lot of other things (believe me they're a lot) which are for internal use and would be spam to every one else here. As for the priority, I'm always trying to update the V-Ray 5 for Cinema 4D - planned features thread, so we can keep you updated. In fact, I've currently updated the list since we've fixed the slow material previews on scene open. Our priorities are always based on the forum reports here and our support system. We try to balance between them with the implementing of new features from the V-Ray core or catching up with other V-Ray 3 features.

Asking some 3rd party plugin producer, if Vra5 will be supported, you get almost everywhere the same answer... "depends on CG, still too many bugs...."
Well that depends on the third party plugin developer as well because if they don't contact us and let us know that there is an issue that is a showstopper for their development it would be difficult for us to know what to fix and prioritize it accordingly, so their work can continue. Every third party dev that contacted us, has their issues solved and a working plugin with support for V-Ray 5. I'll be happy to know who are those 3rd party plugin devs, so we can contact them if needed.

Lights and instances don't work with V-Ray in general, not only within Cinema 4D, and we're planning to do some work on this in the near future.

As for the perfect sphere, I'll try to describe it with a few words, like I already did a few times here in the forums.
V-Ray 5 integration is very different and isn't like V-Ray 3 where the engine is directly integrated with Cinema 4D and pretty much everything is natively supported because we receive the data directly from Cinema 4D. However, this was applicable only for Production rendering because of its direct integration while Interactive, Distributed and GPU rendering were based on V-Ray Standalone and a lot of Cinema 4D stuff wasn't supported there (for example the Cinema 4D noise was baked not native) leading to different final renderings and inconsistencies. That is why pretty much every shader, for example, was supported natively out of the box in V-Ray 3 with Production rendering.
With V-Ray 5 we try to translate everything that Cinema 4D has to a similar V-Ray plugin alternative and if such an alternative doesn't exist then it needs to be written from scratch, or it isn't going to work. The reason why we took this approach is mainly interoperability with the other integrations, and of course to have consistent rendering between Production, Interactive, Distributed, Cloud Rendering and Chaos Vantage without the differences that we had with V-Ray 3. Even if there is a difference, it will be much faster and easy to fix.

I hope this information is useful enough and answers your questions.

Hi Shaio, thanks for the additional comments..
I know you're not delaying it for fun.. and everything you say sounds reasonable, but sometimes working with limitations is nevertheless frustrating .. it is not only the last 9 months since release, also the years before, were we wished to work with a comparable version with the advantages from other versions like for Max or Maya..
And from time to time it is needed to mention. Because it is not so lucky when the first thought for a new project is, can I make it with vray5 or not..

But as mentioned before, Vray5 is great and I believe also many others here appreciating your work

BTW: I believe the spheres shouldn't have any priority
