Hi, does anybody know how to reduce the noise? Its a simple Scene with just 1 Dome Light, only plain white Material and Glass. Bucket Render Settings are all standard.

    Hello rohdan,

Generally, the default render settings are well optimized to produce good render quality and optimal render times. However, for some scenes, those settings need to be tweaked. Reducing the noise threshold in your image sampler settings will reduce the noise of your image but it will also increase the render times. You can also use the denoiser to denoise your image in post-processing. Please check the following article which gives tips on how to improve your render quality and reduce your render times.

It has definitelys something to do with the HDR in the Texture Slot of the DomeLight. We use high Quality HDR from PGSkies. With VRAY Sun + Sky it renders okay.

It also renders much faster (approx. half the time).
BUT: how to use Textures right in a Dome Light???? With VRAY 3.7 there was no such problem.

on 3.7 you need to load the hdr by using the Vray advanced bitmap otherwise you get the wrong gamma, on V5 there’s no need for that, just load the hdr file in the texture slot of the dome light.
If you can share the scene I can fix it for you

Hi Sirio...thanks, it seems, that was the solution. Another question: if the render is to dark, what do u do? Working only with the camera exposure? Or do you work with the intensity in the Dome Light? In VRAY 3.7 you could correct the gamma of the HDR. In VRAY 5 the Button is grey.
PG Skies are actually set to a game of 0.75.

If you work with a quality HDR ther's no need to tune the gamma to 0.75, that was an old trick used to compensate poor HDR quality by boosting the contrast between the sun and the sky so that the sun produce sharper shadows (PG HDR where not that good, I'vent used them in a while though.. maybe quality has improved in recent years).
While lowering the gamma helps to get sharper shadows it will saturate the HDR, so to get a decent result you also need to tweak saturation etc.
Using a good HDR the sun should already have correct shadows so you only need to adjust the intensity, you can calibrate the intensity using a physical sun/sky (provided the HDR represents a reasonably clear sky), you set the sun to the same position of the hdr sun, then tune the camera exposure. Once you get the correct camera exposure remove the sun/sky and tune the HDR intensity so that it will match the physical sun intensity.
I've produced a few calibrated HDR but I do not sell them individually, if you need I can share a low res version for free.

That was usually my workflow. I always thought PG Skies were very good. But you're right...to geht sharp shadows, it was always necessary to lower gamma. Thats actually now a problem. Do u know, where to get real good HDR for archviz?

The one from cg source were nice: https://cg-source.com/HDRi-Skies there are also many free HDR online but YMMV.
