  • How to set up a IES Light correct

I have some Spot Lights with IES Files. The Light is too soft for me.
Where can I tune Power und Color? What kind of Power is meant in the Power multiplier (Lumens, Watt, ...)

Second question: IES Light is not visible... any tips to make it visible?

    Hello rohdan,

You can control the intensity of the IES light using the Power parameter. The value of this parameter is in Lumens (we have updated our documentation page and this is now described there). The color of the light is controlled by the Color parameter. You can find more information about the IES light here.

Second question: IES Light is not visible... any tips to make it visible?
Could you please elaborate on this question? Where do you want to make the light visible?

Ok...thanks...would be nice, to have the value in the GUI.

Visibilty: when I take a rectangle light, I see the area. When I take a IES, I see the Light but no source.

        Hi rohdan ,
IES files have built-in value for their Power, that's why by default the "Power" is set to 0, so that it can read the intensity set in the file itself.
If you want to make an IES light brighter or dimmer just enter a different value and start tweaking according to your scene.
Since the IES lights simply load an external file, their "source" does not appear in the final rendering. For that you could either add another dimmer light or better yet just a mesh with slightly emissive material on it.
And please don't rely on a mesh with an emissive material for your actual lighting, that's a job for a proper light/ies light setup.

As a workaround to get a visible light source you can use an area light with proper intensity, then disable affect diffuse/specular.
