  • Vray collection

Hi. I'm looking to get back into Vray as I've moved to Corona render for the past few years. Does the new Vray work with all aspects of the Vray collection? For example I'm interested in using Chaos Phoenix and Chaos Vantage. Do these both work with Vray for Cinema 4D? If so can anyone recommend some good tutorials using Phoenix with Cinema 4D. Many thanks

    Hello ianosss,

At the moment there isn't Phoenix for Cinema4D. Currently, you can load cache files from PhoenixFD (.aur) along with OpenVDB (.vdb) and Field3D (.f3d) files inside the V-Ray Volumetric Grid and render the cache. You can find more information about V-Ray Volume Grid inside V-Ray for Cinema4D here.

As per your second query, you can open vrscenes, exported from V-Ray for Cinema4D inside Chaos Vantage. We have not yet added a Live Link button for connection between both applications but this is in our to-do list and will be added in a future update of the plugin. I will let you know once this happens.

Thanks for the info. Will there be Phoenix for Cinema 4D in the future do you know? I don't have Maya or 3D max so I'm guessing Phoenix isn't possible for me at the moment, or is there a standalone app to create cache files?

That will be great when it has Live Link... I'll look out for it. That's exactly what I need for my workflow.

            Hello,

Please note that I can't provide any information on this matter. I will let you know if we have any updates on this. At the moment, PhoenixFD is only available for 3ds Max and Maya.

            Thank you.

              Hello ianosss,

I am happy to inform you that with the release of V-Ray 5 for Cinema4D, update 2 we added a "Live link" button for connection with Chaos Vantage. You can download and install the build from here.

You just need to click on the live link button and it will let you download Chaos Vantage if you don't have it installed. If you do have it installed it will automatically start and the scene that you're currently working on will be visualized inside vantage and it will act like a viewport for you.

                    Hi Mark,
can you be more specific, what happens on your side?

                      Hi shaio

Thanks for the reply. I pressed the link button and then tried opening a scene after. That must be why it didn't work. I'm not able to try again until I've finished a batch of renders, but will updated shortly

                      Thanks!

                        Hi shaio @yunalzobu,

I've tried it on one machine and it works. I've tried the same file on another machine and it just stays on the opening tree model.
The working one is an Intel machine, and the one which doesn't is AMD if that makes any difference?

                        Thanks

The CPU doesn't matter when you use Chaos Vantage and Live link. The only requirement that Chaos Vantage has is to use an NVIDIA RTX GPU since the technology behind Vantage is from NVIDIA. AMD GPUs won't work. Here is a link with the System Requirements for Chaos Vantage to check them out. You can also take a look at the Supported Features page so you know what isn't going to work in Vantage while using live linking. Currently there isn't a Cinema 4D page but we're working on it and will update the page as soon as we're ready.

shaio I've just checked the specification of my AMD machine and it meets all of the criteria and even opens up Vantage fine....it just doesn't live link with C4d after opening. Any advice, or do you need to see further information?

                            thanks

                              Hello markTAVF,

Do you get any error messages in Cinema4D? Can you open Chaos Vantage, go to the Live Link menu> Change Port, and check what is the current port. The default port should be 20701. Then, please go to Cinema4D, Edit> Preferences> Renderer> V-Ray> Distributed rendering tab and see if the port inside the Vantage Live Link Port matches the one from Vantage. Alternatively, you can access the port by going to the V-Ray menu and clicking on the cogwheel next to the Vantage Live Link button as shown here. Please let me know if that helps.
