  • Displacement - More than one Possible?

    Hi VRay Forum,

    like in the title.
Is there a way to have more than one Displacement Tags (or what ever)?
I will never understand why Chaos decided Displacement as an tag instead of a Texture.
    This drives me nuts.

    Hi,
This is not possible, even if it was possible adding more tag (or materials as you suggest) can lead to technical issues.
That being said you can add as many displacement texture you want using a C4D layer or Vraylayered shader:

      Hi Sirio,

      thanks for you're support.
      I bought a 3D Kit from kitbash3d.
They backed a lot of models to one mesh with different selection tags.
Each of those tags has a different displacement texture.
The problem is now how to get those displacement textures on the right place.
Here a example picture to show how kitbash3d delivers those models.

I liked it a lot in 3-7 to use with selction tags. You could use more Disp maps..
But today the quality is much better... I think

A quick solution is to split the polygon selections (I’m pretty sure there are scripts that do that automatically). Developers knows about users needs so in the future there will be more options for this kind of situations.

            Hello Rickmc,

I apologize for the delayed reply.

There is a way to apply different displacement maps to different selections of your object. Keep in mind that this will only work with UVW Mapping. To do that you will need to load a VRayMultiSubTex shader in the texture slot of the displacement as shown here. Set the Mode of the VRayMultiSubTex to "Face Material ID", then load each texture as a new item in the Texture List tab and add the respective selection tag to it as shown here.

You can download a test scene from here.

We are looking for ways to improve this and to make the setup easier. I will let you know if we have updates on the matter.
