  • Render splines?

Perhaps a stupid question but how do I render splines directly with V-Ray in Cinema 4D? (without using a sweep)

One would thing adding a vray tag to the spline to be able to enable rendering or using a hair material would work, but I can't get anything..

On old 3.6 version it was possible, on version 5 this option is not yet available. You can ask developers if they plan to add it in a future update.

Hi Sirio76, thanks, this is a bummer ;-(
I sure hope the developers are able to add it soon since it is a big part of the C4D mograph workflow.

        Hello menno_vandijk,

As I mentioned in this thread, it is on our to-do list to list to add support for rendering splines. I will update this thread as soon as we have updates on the matter. Thank you.

          Hello,

As I also mentioned in this thread, yesterday we released a V-Ray 5 for Cinema 4D - Update 2.3 and with it, we added support for V-Ray Renderable spline. To render splines, you will need to add VRayRenderableSpline tag from the V-Ray tags. You can find more information about VRayRenderableSpline here. The builds can be downloaded from here.

You can also check the announcement thread for more information about what is new in this release.
