  • Refraction affect Object select pass / alpha transparency

    Hi

From what I see, the only pass, that let's us export transparent objects with it's alpha affected by transparency is the main alpha pass.

When checking "affect all channels", I would like to have the Object selection alpha pass to be also affected by transparency. For now we have to disable all other objects from main alpha to get transparency for that one object.

    Main alpha:

Drink object ID alpha selection - I want that one to be also affected by transparency - is this possible?

    Hello RwVision

Currently, there is no way to affect mattes and masks by transparency.

I can understand why you would be interested in such a feature, and it could be really useful in post-processing. However, these are matte masks and aren't supposed to be affected by refractions.

It currently isn't possible to get the same result by combining render passes as an alpha affected by refraction.

Well, that's a shame - thank you for the response!

I wouldnt give up completely.there is an Extra TEX matte , with exclusion and including Matte etc.. I havent played with it but it looks like you can make a pass with a specific material and have some control to limit what is being used in the pass... somehow between that and combining object mattes it seems like you should be able to get what you need.. In In redshift I learned you can assign oibject IDs to a color in the puzzle mat and click and then include t transparency and refraction. I thought Vray had the clown matte or puzzle matte.. I have to check on that... looks like the puzzle matt is called the Multi matte and there is a material ID checkbox..

I am also interested in this! I would love a way to render an object matte with transparency. I know the composited result is not the same but sometimes that is what we need for post.
