  • Not a single c4d resource on chaos!

    Hello!

While there is plenty of resources for other platforms, there's not a single scene, material or model available by chaos!
Frankly, skimming forums and YouTube tutorials is not the fastest way to learn by doing. Old and obsolete settings are consuming a lot of time. And the documentation is way to "scientific" to get going.
So, I am quite disappointed about the missing "resources".

I really would like reliable and downloadable examples files of every V-Ray feature.
They would need to be updated with every new release.

    Lighting, typical scene setups with:
    • Dome Light
    • V-Ray Sun with Sky
    • IES Light
    • Rectangle Light
    • Sphere Light
    V-Ray render settings, best practice:
    • Exterior scene, landscape, architecture
    • Interior scene, architecture
    • Interior scene, studio setup
Materials, best practice, standard and node:
    • V-Ray standard material examples (wood, rock, concrete, glass, plastic, fabric etc.)
    • AI Surface Material
    • Blend Material
    • Bump Material
    • Car Paint Material
    • Fast SSS2 Material (is there a slow one?)
    • Hair Next Material
    • Light Material
    • Scanned Material
    • Stochastic Flakes
    • 2Sided Material
    • Override Material
    • Displacement (see V-Ray tags)
V-Ray features, just a simple example file for each:
    • V-Ray Proxy
    • V-Ray Scene
    • V-Ray Fur (grass?)
    • V-Ray Clipper
    • V-Ray VolumeGrid
    • Environment Fog
    V-Ray tags:
    • Geometry
    • Object Properties
    • Physical Camera (see Ligthing)
    • Renderable Spline
V-Ray file formats, best practice with c4d (and OSX):
    • vrmesh
    • vrimg
    Render Elements examples scenes:
    • Mattes
    • Passes
    • Photoshop settings
    • VFB settings

As you can see, my wish list is quite long. I know quite a bit about every topic, but a lot of time I am not certain if the current workflow is correct.
I hear some people mocking me, that every project is different, and so on. But we need a better knowledge base.
Let me know what you think
    Cheers, Cedric

    Hey cedric_vaucher ,

Thank you for the suggestions and your feedback.
Our list with planned short videos and tutorials is quite long and includes all of your topics and even more. Ideally we want to have a how to video for every feature in their respective documentation page alongside an example scene when possible. This of course requires some time to produce but non the less it will be available in the near future.
We already have a dedicated easy to access page for tutorials in our Documentation site and will be expanding it even more in the near future. Let me know if you need more information or questions answered.

      Hi Ivan,

      Thanks for your quick reply.
Time is key here. Drop the video production that "requires some time". Just offer trustworthy files. No fancy stuff.
Just so you know, I've found more Redshift resources when actually looking for V-Ray materials! Some videos are more than 7 years old... and a lot of information about V-Ray 3.7 is not helpful anymore.
Since we cannot import materials and scenes say from 3ds Max, V-Ray for c4d remains always a step behind.
Just post some examples! You can ad the video and tutorial later.

The documentation is pretty good in my opinion, I agree that there are very few resources but on the other end Vray5 for Cinema is a very young software compared to competitors.
In the Cosmos assets you have many model, shaders and light setup ready to use. On the Chaos YouTube channel you will find many useful video, you can also check on our channel, we have several video as well, all about Vray5 (I strongly suggest to see our webinar about the museum https://www.youtube.com/c/3DRenderandBeyond/videos is very informative and it covers most feature).
If you need some simple example just ask and I’ll try to answer when possible

          Hi Sirio,

I have indeed dismantled Cosmos assets and I've watched your tutorials. And as harsh as it may sound, I don't need examples now, I need all examples all the time
I'd would be a huge time saver if chaos did the job once instead of every (paying) user each time they use some new functions.

Thanks for your helping offer – I will certainly get back !

            Hi.
I also miss example scenes and videos about interior lighting projects for living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.

There is really no difference between those rooms, you always use the same identical techniques, and that applies also for exterior lighting
A simple rule for lighting from the tip 5: https://www.chaos.com/blog/9-tips-on...ctural-project
              • Choose the correct light body dimension
              • Use the correct intensity in Lumens
              • Use the correct color temperature
