  • Rendering frontal view

    Hi, I am still trying to figure out Vray5 and I have a question, how to render a frontal view of a product in the scene (parallel mode, like architectural top view etc.)?
    I set my Vray camera to Parallel mode, and I see the frontal view in the viewport. So far OK. But it renders as a perspective unless in Vray render settings in Overrides I set camera type to Orthogonal. Now, front view is there but in VFB it renders very very far away, unless I push the camera zoom to a very large number. That again distorts my C4D camera viewport.
    How to adjust it so I have the same view in the viewport and VFB?

    Usually I set my physical camera to a very small angle, you will get virtually no distorsion and the same view in the viewport.

      Thank you Sirio, I have tried this approach long before I found out how to do it properly, it matters for the projects I am working on - rendering electronic devices from the front, and some parts (knobs etc). are rendered in multiple positions and composited so the final user can "turn" them. So really any distortion is a problem, even a few pixels can make a problem in the compositing of the final thing here. in the previous Vray there was I think "use active camera setting" in the Vray render settings/Vray camera...Can't find it now..

        OK, after some experimenting, I found out that if I leave Vray camera projection as Perspective (in the attributes manager) and set it to Orthogonal in Vray render settings, it works better. I see the frontal view in the VFB and control the zoom by the camera's focal length. Nevertheless, what I see in the viewport is still a perspective view, very different from one in VFB. Better than what I described in a previous post but still kind of wrong.. If anyone knows if there is a way to see the same thing in both viewport and VFB it will be of great help. Thanks!

            Thank you. Well yes, this is working! But this is then rendering without VrayCamera? How is this then working if I need to adjust the camera settings? What camera setting does this use? Of course, I need all lighting, shadows etc in my frontal view. Thanks!

            p.s. another issue with this is that I can not lock the view like a protection tag on the camera. A small accidental move in my viewport messes with the position of the object in the VFB.

              That's using the default linked camera for the respective viewport (in my case the Front view, see the attached image below).

              another issue with this is that I can not lock the view like a protection tag on the camera.
              I'd recommend tearing-up a new View Panel from the "Panel" menu on any viewport and setting up the new one to be the one to render out the image. That way you can move that window aside and never touch its camera

                Thank you very much I really appreciate your time and effort!
                What you have in the middle is the panel that you "move aside and never touch the camera"? I really am doubtful that I can use this system if this camera view is not 100% locked. I need to render many many electronic parts from a single front view of an object and I render them animated and they are composited in the end. I work on a project for days. If an accidental shift of the camera happens, everything is spoiled. For that reason, I cannot rely on having the panel aside and never touching it by accident. I hope you understand what I mean. As attached - every knob and every button are rendered in multiple positions.

                And just of curiosity - this default linked camera is not a Vray cam and has practically no settings. Does it not matter for the render?

                  btw on this topic...
                  i just noticed that you get a huge discrepancy between the viewport and the rendering
                  when rendering with perspective and a horizontal view angle of 5 degrees.
