  • Importing 3ds Max lights to C4d

    Hi All,

As I've noticed that I can't import 3ds max Vray lights in to C4d, does anyone have any pointers as to what format may do it?

Edit : I've also noticed that materials from a VRscene file exported in 3ds don't appear either?

    Thanks

    Mark

Have you tried to export Vray proxy? For the materials there is a chance that some shaders are not supported by C4D

        Hi sirio76

can you please tell me more about using a Vray proxy?

Thanks very much folklore I'm hoping I can do this without any spend on software for what is just a one off import.

        Thanks,
        Mark

To create proxy in Vray for Cinema4D just select your object and export it as a proxy from here:

Then you have several options to export the proxy, you can leave mostly the default settings but if you want to change something they are very intuitive.
Once you have your proxy you can import it automatically or manually from here:

In theory you should be able to import proxy made on other Vray platforms too as long as they don't use incompatible shaders etc.

I would guess that it's the same process for 3ds Max, as I'm importing IN to C4d, and OUT of 3ds?

Can this also make a proxy for an entire scene, or would you do this manually?

            Thanks

You can export a Vray scene file as well (.vrscene), that should include the entire scene, last time I check you were not able to see the file in the viewport though
