  • Colorize effect with node materials?

    Hi all!

I just wanted to throw this question out into the wild because i couldn't figure out an easy way to this. And maybe someone did.

I would like to use a setup that gives me the effect i get when using the colorize shader in the classic materials or in c4d natively.
The remap node is great, but it's note to visual and make shifting colors a bit hard to do. AFAIK the curve remapping still has some issues, so it's not a suitable replacement for the colorize shader atm.

This has been something thats bugging me for a while now.... Maybe the answer is that there is no solution to this, at the moment, but maybe someone figured out something... It would be greatly appreciated if there was a solution that someone could share!

Hey akos_kiss, you can achieve the colorize effect in the nodes with a similar setup:

I'm using this topic to also remind you that we added a material converter tool back in 5.2, located here:
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	45.7 KB ID:	1181451
This material conversion can be used to convert any natively supported shaders to their node equivalents, so you may find out how you can achieve the same effect in nodes. You will notice that sometimes (like in the case with the Colorizer), to achieve the same effect you need more nodes than a simple shader, but that is the intent of the nodes - to be more flexible and provide more possibilities to combine different effects.

I hope this answers your question and please don't hesitate to ask further questions.

Edit: Just adding this additional links for completeness: 1. Documentation link, 2: A post with similar setup and explanation.

        Hi deyan.hadzhiev!

Wow this is amazing! TBH i wasn't aware that the converter had such extended capabilities and i assumed it was only for basic bulk conversions, when i first used it with vray 5. I think i totally misunderstood the use cases of the color to uwv node my bad.
The distance shader setup was something i thought wasn't applicable with color remapping :/

Thank you so much for the clear example and the reminder! I have to go noew and rtm a bit more carefully....
