  • Concrete floor: need suggestion

I often place my scenes on a concrete floor. I've tried several ways, including Cosmos Browser, to create a nice, realistic looking concrete floor material. I have always failed. It often lacks texture (bumps) and most importantly, it is not seamless, so we see the repetitive pattern. So, I'm looking for suggestions on how to achieve this. Thanks.

Here I show how to create several type of concrete surfaces, you can also add on top of the texture a UVW randomizer in stochastic mode to get rid of the tiling.

This tutorial is very interesting. However, as you can see, I still get that ugly tiling, even though there is a UVW randomizer.

That concrete texture doesn’t look that good, you need to equalize the image in PS, then the repetition will be less noticeable. A larger sample will help too. Beside this your shader looks way too reflective for that kind of concrete.

Do you have any suggestion on where I could get good large seamless texture images ?

What I don't understand is that you should be able to obtain a concrete floor by the touch of a button. There are hundreds of controls and adjustments for a simple concrete floor. This is insane. A concrete floor is a concrete floor! There must be tools and presets for guys like me who don't have the time and energy to play around with all these settings. My job is based on productivity. Does this make sense?

Does this make sense? Well it really depends on your attitude.. today you can start a software, use only premade assets, lighting etc, and get “ok” results. I come from a world where all of this was not available, so I learned to do everything, including creating textures and shaders from scratch. IMO productivity means that you can take advantage of premade stuff to speed up your work, but still be able to build things by your self when needed (and it’s also the fun part of this job for me).
Back to the concrete, there are thousand different concrete surfaces so it doesn’t exist one material that is good for all and with the touch of a button. Still there’s really no need to play with hundreds of controls, for a good result you only need some good textures and load diffuse, glossiness and bump in the dedicated slots, nothing more.
Beside this there are a number of things that you can do to improve the material, including adding randomization, aging effects and more.
If you need good concrete textures there are many producer that offers nice solutions, just look online some are even for free, we also have many high end concrete shaders in our finalized museum scene.

well, not sure if that is what you search but we have several nic concrete libs including many detailed concrete surfaces and floors, all 8k and seamless of course:

                https://3dtools.info/dna-materials-03/

they include also v-ray5/6 c4d materials as presets, that you can tune to your needs in manifold ways.
(all material sets include bump/normal maps and displacement, glossy/roughness and diffuse/albedo textures)
