  • Rectangle light as background

Hello, my workflow in the last vray-versions: For the background I used a rectangle light, excluding in the sun and domelight. Perfekt - the rectangle light has no shadows, only visible for the background (better control in VFB).

There are many situations where I am looking through the building, so I can' use the background in VFB, cause behind the glasses I missed the background, it is black.

In the newer versions of vray (2024 and 2025) this workflow isn't possible, cause I can't exclude the rectangle light from sun and domelight. It doesn't work. Will this be corrected or will it stay that way? I don't like the light material because it's control in the VFB.

    Best regards, Harry

Hello HarrySeidl, I attempted to replicate the workflow you described, and it seems to work on my end.

If you were referring to a different workflow than the one shown in the screenshot, please let me know. Additionally, if you’re not seeing some of the options shown in the screenshot, could you share your V-Ray and Cinema 4D versions so we can investigate this further?

Hi daniel.kapsazov - ist the sun behind the rectangle light? Set an object like a sphere in front of the rectangle light - is there a shadow? Load an image into the rectagle light - then it makes a shadow - without an image it works.

Hello HarrySeidl, Apologies for the oversight, you’re correct, there was no shadow casted by the sun in my example. After consulting with our development team, it turns out the behavior you’re observing in the newer versions of V-Ray is expected. To achieve a similar effect, you can use a V-Ray Mesh Light assigned to a plane, then add it to the Exclude list for the Sun and Dome lights.

Hello HarrySeidl, we’ve identified the cause of the issue you’re experiencing and have logged it with our development team ( VC4D-2498 ). Once a fix is available, I’ll be sure to update you here on the forum. In the meantime, while it’s not an ideal solution, using the Light Material remains a viable option to achieve a similar effect. Alternatively, you could also try using an older build released before the changes that caused this behavior - V-Ray 6 for Cinema 4D, update 2.2 from Apr 16, 2024
