VRay 7 for C4d.....why last to be supported, even after Sketchup!!!! Considering C4d is more widely used and in much wider professional creative fields, why o why is it yet again being released last......we all pay the same BUT last to be served at the bar!!!!.....Rather a large section of users to upset...dont you think? If the entire 3d / animation and film industry is not important perhaps it should be sold cheaper....given we have to wait months after first released to the archaic established Max, but later than Sketchup!!!! Wow...way to go Chaos! Will look forward to a pro-rata reduction in the licence for having to run on old software!!

To be fair C4D received most updates far in advance compared to all the other software (except for Max and sometime Maya), you can easily verify this by checking the build date from the nightlies page. They already said that they are so close to the final release that they will not offer a beta version, so my guess is that the final release is near the corner (unless they find major problems).
Of course my hope is that they will release 7.0 asap, but waiting a few more days or even a couple months realistically won’t change my life. Regardless is always a bad idea to jump on board of a beta software or even a release right away, is better to wait a couple hotfixs after the final release.

Well first of all thank you for showing this much interest in V-Ray for C4D, it is quite appreciated On the other hand please keep in mind that each DCC software requires different amounts of effort - sometimes we'll get features in C4D first before any of the other DCCs because its just not that much work (and the devs are awesome!), sometimes it'll be a week later and other times maybe a little bit more.
Another thing I'd say to keep in mind is that sometimes you get C4D specific features too and those need time to cook as well. So maybe there's a feature in C4D that we want to support (or even create from scratch) that none of the other DCCs have because it is not relevant for them. That then too obviously takes developer time and effort that is separate from porting over things from V-Ray core

thanks for the info Nejc. hope still it isnt to far away.
on the "even sketchup..." comment, - to be fair one must say that Sketchup has a huge userbase, many millions of users worldwide, many more than 3dsmax, maya, c4d all together.
so i assume chaosgroup has also like 10-50x more customers using sketchup than c4d (or even max).
from user base sizes, sketchup and rhino are probably the biggest apps, i guess followed by revit and archicad.(i have no info if that reflects the same for vray)
that said, i am also eager to be able to use v7 on my favorite tool C4DLast edited by stefan_laub1; 14-12-2024, 11:09 AM.

I'm not sure where metrics are being sourced for user base - I don't think we can know without chaos sharing sub number which they would never do being a private company.
I look at the numbers on the forum to gauge interest and while max and maya have the most, sketchup is third despite it not being a true polygon molder. Cinema has 3k, while rhino and sketchup have more than 15k. Rhino is surprisingly big while definitely not being a polygon modeler. These number may also be big because of how long they've had implementations. The real questions is growth since vray 5 came out.

well, if an app is poly modeller or not isnt relevant for rendering or use, not sure what you mean by that.
some like or need poly modeller, others like architects or designers prefer nurbs modeling,
Rhino is the most used software among architects today. which again is the biggest visualization field by far, and vray is pretty strong/popular in this field.
i also dont think the forum entry reflect user bases, as different user types use or not use forums

rhino with grasshopper is the de facto standard in architecture for 3d design and inhouse visualization, a lot of arch offices have and use rhino, in special high end ones. it works perfect along with revit and also archicad (most used BIM/Cad apps). similar as sketchup was standard in older times, or still is for simpler tasks.Last edited by stefan_laub1; 14-12-2024, 03:43 PM.

And Blender is also big...... It must be programmed from scratch.... . How can that be faster than a C4D upgrade?
And I think user base numbers shouldn't play a role...And I still think a transparent communication can avoid disappointments. But there is nothing...Last edited by haniel1107; 16-12-2024, 02:35 AM.

V-Ray 7 has a bunch of nice new features and nice QoL upgrades and i'm really looking forward to test them. But to be fair c4d has a lot of quirks and maxon has been reworking a lot of things under the hood so im not surprised that implementing some features is a lot of work compared to other dcc-s that weren't transitioning their core codebase in the past few years.
The new features are tempting and i also wish to use 7.0 as soon as possible, but right now I much rather have a FINAL 7.0 release that has bug fixes and other updates or that were mentioned in the forum or by the community. So its fair to say that the v7 implementation for c4d is a bigger job.
Just one example for an update that is independent of v7 (but i hope will get it with the v7 release) is the displacement tags integration or rework. I think we can all agree that that would be a huge deal for c4d users.
I much rather wait a few more months or weeks and get a few extra updates and fixes that be the first to play with v7
The new update they pushed out last week has a bunch of thing that are great fixes and i noticed that there was an increased attention in the c4d part of the forum and more engagement from chaos lately so i'm really excited to see what's ahead of us!
I think i can wait a few more weeks if that means we get a better v7.0 release for c4d

I think, if the reason is that Maxon has changed a lot under the hood, how is Vray6 running?
Doesn’t make sense to me…
