  • Shadow catcher material for AO?

I need a material with alpha to catch the shadows in my scene, I dont want to use real shadows but AO instead.
I have tried using a vray dirt map in the refraction and opacity channel of the material, but it seem unaffected by vray denoiser so my AO-shadows end up looking noisy compared to the rest of my render.

Hi kimmo_hernborg VRayDirtmap is the way to go in this scenario. Please, share a screen recording so we can observe what happened with the Denoiser.

Additionally, share with us the versions of Cinema and V-Ray that you are using.
    Which Denoiser are you using?
Share a simple scene that you can reproduce the issue with, so we can investigate it on our side as well.

      Hi Viktor

I have prepared a scene with this issue as well as the alpha glass issue Im describing in another thread. Where can I send this file?

            I Boyan

            Thanks for your reply.
For the projects Im doing regular shadows wont work. I need to use AO as ground shadows, so Im afraid the solution you suggested wont solve my problem.

It seems like there is a bug and the refraction I have on the ground object isnt being denoised (the reflections on the other obects are being denoised). Is this something that can be solved in a future update?

              Hey, Kimmo,

Why did you choose not to use its self-illumination texture instead of using it as a refraction channel? I also add a Light mix Render element with emissive material. You can use it in a post and blend this render as "multiply".

              Cheers,
