  • V-Ray 5 R23/R21 freeze

    Hello there,

Finally I have my new PC and iam absolutely devastated because I cant run V-Ray 5.

I have Vray 3.7 installed on 21 and it works. Redshift and R23 works. But if I try to work with V-Ray 5 on R23 or R21 I get Cinema to open or for example create a cube. But I try to create a V-Ray Material Cinema freezes forever without CPU Usage. Or if I try to open the C4D Settingswindow it freezes too.

Iam using an Ryzen 9 3900X, 32 Gb Ram, Nvidia RTX 3090.

Everything works except when using C4D with V-Ray 5.

Could someone help me? Do I maybe miss something? Some distributables or anything?

I tried reinstalling Graphics driver, using R21 instead of. 23 . I installed V-Ray via Zip and that doesnt Help.

I dont know what to do.

    Greets,
    PdZ

Hi PdZ, does the freeze last indefinitely or it is over after some time (a minute or two)? You may have invalid license settings, leading to the V-Ray license timing out.
If this is not the case, could you try to capture a minidump when V-Ray freezes and send it to us? The process of producing a dump is similar to the described process for V-Ray for Maya here:

      Hey Deyan,

It seems to timeout indefinitely but I will try to wait a lot longer and if nothing happens: minidumping.

      Thanky

deyan.hadzhiev it really seems to work now!!

It took very long but now it works! After closing the scene its now working fast every time. Does V-Ray unpack anything the first time you start C4D?

        Thank you very much

Hi PdZ, there is no unpacking on the first time. One thing that always is executed with new installation of V-Ray is the GPU kernel compilation, but this should not affect the material previews, because they are always on CPU.
I still think the problem might be related to your license server setup - can you check in your settings if you incidentally have a wrong IP for the license server (or alternative license server)? By wrong I mean an IP that does not address an actual reachable machine on the local network.
If the problem persists between restarts of Cinema 4D, I would still suggest getting that minidump, so we may check where V-Ray is hanging.

            Thx Deyan,

I just installed the newest licence server and changed no IP. Iam using just one machine.

            Currently its working very fine!
