After Just 20-30 minutes unpaid betatesting I found out what is happening and what is causing slow Scene loading in Cinema 4D with V-Ray Materials.

If Just ONE material has just ONE "V-Ray Tex Layered Max-Shader" the scene is loading extremely long.

I just copied the same material 24 times. It has just 2 textures in 3 shaders. I thought it maybe had to do with the amount of textures but no. Or that it has something to do with V-Ray DR compatible shaders in general but also NO.

I used a shader "V-Ray Tex Layered Max" with just one V-Ray BitMapshader In a Layer and thats it.

I Post a Video of that later to prove.

Yes, I can confirm that with the V-Ray Tex Layered Max-Shader the scene almost freezes Cinema 4d while opening.
However, slowdowns also occur when none of the vray's special textures are used in the scene.

this is a long known super annoying bug in 3.x
but it should be fixed in v5, not ??
i remember this being discussed / talked of last year.

I am also running into the same slow load times in vray5, it can take up to a 0.5 hour or more sometimes to load all the material previews and during that time cinema 4d becomes unresponsive. I thought maybe it was just me, but now i know others are experiencing it too. I am hoping this will be fixed soon, in the meantime i will try disabling the material previews.

zAppledot thats another problem but not connected to that problem I meant. I mean: That BEFORE the scene is even loaded or anything visible in C4D: The loading bar freezes for a very long time (loading bar below left) and after a lot of time Cinema finally has loaded the scene. Its not what you meant AFTER The scene is loaded and Cinema 4D is loading the textures into the viewport. And yes:This is also extreme slow and leads to waiting times. Saving the scene without having materials set to be visible in viewport, of course, fixes this issue. But as I said: I meant the fact that C4D/V-Ray are fricking slow as a snail and even below speed of a snail when opening a scene with a Material which has V-Ray Tex layered Max on 3.7. I will do some checks with V5 now.

Lets see if this is just a 3.7 thing (which would be good).

                  Hello everyone,

We have fixed the slow loading of scenes with enabled material previews and you can download the build which includes the fix from our Stable folder on the nightlies builds server.

Please install the build and let us know if you are facing any issues with the material previews.

                  Thank you.

aleksandar.kasabov Could you do the same fix with node Material Previews as well? Everytime i open a scene with node materials, the Previews get rerendered.

Maybe scenes load faster, but c4d has tendency to hang until materials are displayed in viewport.

Exactly. I would like the same.

                          Hi Doger and Makushimu
The Node material previews are completely different and more modern implementation in general, and they didn't have the same issue with previews to begin with, so they don't need the same fix. The classic materials preview rendering was happening and controlled by Cinema 4D inside the main cpu thread, and that was causing the slowdowns, especially when you have more shaders inside a material. There might be something else that needs optimization with the Node materials that needs to be investigated, because I'm not encountering such issues here on my end where I use quite large and texture heavy scenes. It will be great if we can look in one of your scenes and see what could be done. I'll forward this to the devs as well.

                          Thank you for the feedback!
